Introduction to a common problem in men, causing penile deformity and affecting 10% of the population. Peyronie’s disease greatly impacts on sexual function, psychological wellbeing and relationships in affected men, with only 12% recovering without treatment.

Why: Scar tissue in the penis arises from trauma or post-operative conditions such as radical prostatectomy or pelvic surgery, causing reduced blood flow to the penis and formation of plaques. This may present as a soft tissue injury, leading to pain, penile curvature, indentation and shortening over a period of time, which is greatly distressing to men and limits sexual function.

Recognizing a gap in treatment, particularly in the acute phase of the condition, and as part of her PhD studies, Jo has recently conducted an RCT assessing the benefits of therapeutic ultrasound and will share her findings, which have proven to be highly beneficial. This session will also include practical strategies any Physiotherapist can provide to patients, dealing with this condition and an opportunity to discuss clinical cases.

Audience: This online course is open to physiotherapists, nurses, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, naturopaths, chiropractors, medical doctors, and any other licensed health care provider.

The instructors
Pelvic Health Solutions

Pelvic Health Solutions is an evidence-based teaching company that was founded in 2010 by Nelly Faghani and Carolyn Vandyken, out of the need to develop pelvic health resources in Ontario, an under serviced health concern in this province. Since the inception of our teaching company, pelvic health physiotherapy has blossomed from a handful of physiotherapists to well over 300 therapists now rostered with the Ontario College of Physiotherapists. Pelvic Health Solutions provides continuing education courses for a variety of practitioners, including mentoring and clinical resources for therapists to utilize with their patients. Our mission is to provide evidence-based, biopsychosocial resources to patients and health care practitioners for the assessment and treatment of pelvic health problems in our province and abroad.
